It all started with a spontaneous pit stop at Target, a detail involving a sock, and a boyfriend who suddenly seemed to be walking unusually slow.
Cali and Patrick had somewhere to be. Their couple’s photoshoot was happening in less than an hour. So as Patrick leisurely made his way through Target, she finally asked, “Why are you walking so slow?”
Patrick replied, "I'm just not in a hurry," he said.
What Cali didn't know was that Patrick had a very good reason for taking his time. Tucked away inside his sock was the engagement ring he was hiding for the perfect moment. And every step through the store came with the responsibility of keeping one of the biggest surprises of their relationship safely hidden.
The Moment
The couple had planned what Cali believed was a simple photoshoot in the beautiful Utah landscape. As the photographer began taking pictures, Cali turned away for a moment.
Behind her, Patrick quietly dropped to one knee.
When she turned around, she knew for sure. Today was the day.
The photographer captured every second. The surprise. The emotions. The smile. The tears. The moment she realized this wasn't just another photo session.
It was the beginning of forever.
The “Slight Inkling”
Looking back, Cali admitted she had a "slight inkling" that a proposal could happen during the photoshoot.

She had even mentioned the possibility to her girlfriends, to which they assured her she was completely overthinking it and that Patrick “definitely wasn't” proposing yet.
As it turns out, they were in on the secret.
The gentle gaslighting came entirely out of love. They wanted to protect the surprise and make sure Cali experienced the proposal exactly the way Patrick had envisioned it.
But there was one more detail that helped seal her doubt.
Thanks to carefully orchestrated misinformation that kept her from serious suspicions, Cali believed the ring wouldn't even be ready for several more months. In reality, Patrick had already worked with her to design the ring of her dreams and quietly made sure it was ready long before she expected.
The Future
With the surprise officially out and the ring safely on Cali’s finger, the couple is now looking ahead to what comes next. As Cali is nearing the finish line of nursing school in Kansas City, Patrick is working as an engineer in Utah, the couple is enjoying being engaged and figuring out the next chapter together. Future plans are still taking shape, with the couple considering an intimate elopement or micro-wedding and no date officially set.
